Night security cameras typically come with either a built-in or standalone illuminator. This illuminator "lights up" the area you want to view with infrared light, which then allows any camera to become an infrared night vision camera. Along with this, a typical system will include closed circuit television (CCTV) capabilities, so the images from your camera can be displayed in real time (for viewing by a centrally located security guard) and recorded for later playback. There are two common types of recording devices: a videotape recorder, which typically only takes a "snapshot" of the video feed at regular intervals, or a hard-drive-based digital video recorder (DVR), which can record your full-motion video feeds at full resolution.

The Importance of Infrared Technology

Without infrared technology, there would be no night security cameras. Infrared technology uses light photons, which have been converted to electrons, and amplifies them and converts them back into visible light. Without this technology, humans would still need to watch over everything with the naked eye. Night security cameras make this mostly unnecessary, and as such are a key component to a video security system.
